Online job scams : Man Loses Rs 77 Lakhs in YouTube ‘Like’ Scam

Telugu Flash News

Online job scams are increasing, causing people to lose a lot of money. In a recent cybercrime case, a 56-year-old resident of Nagpur named Sarikonda Raju was tricked by a clever scammer who managed to steal a whopping 77 lakhs rupees from him. The scam involved convincing Raju to make money by simply “liking” videos on YouTube.

The scam began when Raju was contacted by the scammer through his Telegram account. The scammer posed as someone offering a money-making opportunity and persuaded Raju to send screenshots of YouTube channels he had “liked” as part of this scheme. At first, everything seemed innocent, and Raju received some payments for this easy task. Encouraged by these payments, he even shared his bank account details, thinking it was for receiving his earnings.

However, things took a dark turn when the fraudster used the bank account information to make unauthorized transactions, stealing a significant amount of money from Raju’s account.

The crime branch got involved, and they arrested a person named Sagar Banode during a raid related to the case. During the arrest, they discovered that Banode was taking bets on the highly anticipated India-Pakistan World Cup match, suggesting an illegal betting aspect to the case.

Raju’s unfortunate experience reminds us of the ever-evolving tactics used by cybercriminals to deceive people. This incident highlights the importance of being cautious online, skeptical of unsolicited offers, and protecting your financial information.

Local authorities are investigating further to track the funds and bring those responsible for this scheme to justice. This incident underscores the need for ongoing public awareness and cybersecurity education to prevent such scams in the future.

Users are advised to be wary of unsolicited messages or contact from strangers, especially on social media and messaging platforms. It’s important to verify the identity and legitimacy of anyone making financial offers. If something seems too good to be true, it’s wise to research it thoroughly, as scammers often target people looking for quick and easy money.
