A woman was captured on video as she climbed into Rome’s historic Trevi Fountain to fill her water bottle. The footage, recorded last month, shows her navigating the rocks to access the fountain, dressed in a blue shirt and white pants. Despite signs prohibiting touching, climbing, or using the water, she used the cascading water to fill her bottle while other tourists looked on in astonishment.
Lex Jones, a witness who captured the event, pointed out that the Trevi Fountain is a heavily frequented location with explicit prohibitions against such actions. “Numerous signs were prominently displayed, clearly indicating that such behavior is prohibited,” she commented. “I was quite astonished and decided to record the incident.”
In the video, the woman appears unaware of the onlookers’ gaze. Upon returning to the edge of the water, a security guard approaches her, though she seems not to grasp the gravity of her actions. “The woman kept trying to explain her side and didn’t really understand why she was in trouble,” Jones explained.
Eventually, the unnamed woman is escorted away by the guard. It remains unclear whether she faced charges or was released.
The Trevi Fountain, or “Fontana di Trevi” in Italian, stands as one of the world’s most renowned fountains. With its Baroque design, the fountain boasts a centerpiece statue of Neptune, the Roman god of the sea, riding a chariot drawn by two sea horses and two Tritons.
