  2. Sweetener (Optional): If you like your peanut butter a bit sweeter, you can add honey, maple syrup, or sugar to taste. Start with 1-2 tablespoons and adjust to your liking.
  3. Salt (Optional): If your peanuts are unsalted and you prefer salted peanut butter, add a pinch of salt. Adjust to taste.
  4. Oil (Optional): If you want a smoother, creamier consistency, you can add a neutral oil like vegetable or peanut oil. Start with a couple of tablespoons and adjust as needed.

Equipment:

  1. Food Processor or High-Speed Blender: A food processor works best, but a high-speed blender can also do the job.

Instructions for making Peanut Butter:

  1. Roast the Peanuts: If you’re using raw peanuts, you’ll need to roast them first. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the peanuts on a baking sheet in a single layer and roast them for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they’re lightly golden and aromatic. Let them cool for a few minutes.
  2. Blend the Peanuts: Place the roasted peanuts in your food processor or high-speed blender. You can add the sweetener, salt, and oil at this stage if desired.
  3. Start Blending: Begin processing the peanuts at high speed. You’ll need to be patient; it will go through several stages before becoming peanut butter. Initially, the peanuts will turn into a dry, powdery mixture.
  4. Scrape the Sides: Pause the machine and scrape down the sides as needed to ensure even blending.
  5. Continue Blending: Keep processing, and you’ll notice the mixture becoming thicker and starting to clump together.
  6. Adjust Texture: At this point, you can adjust the texture to your preference. If it’s too thick or dry, add a bit more oil. If you prefer a chunky peanut butter, reserve some crushed peanuts to stir in at the end.
  7. Taste and Adjust: Taste your homemade peanut butter. If you’d like it sweeter or saltier, add more sweetener or salt to taste and blend again.
  8. Final Blend: Continue blending until the peanut butter reaches your desired consistency. This can take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, depending on your machine and your desired texture.
  9. Store: Transfer your homemade peanut butter to an airtight container, and store it in the refrigerator. It will keep for several weeks. Be sure to give it a good stir before each use as natural oils may separate over time.
