The Kerala Lottery Department made an exciting announcement on Wednesday, revealing the winning ticket number for the ₹25 crore first prize in the Onam Thiruvonam Bumper BR-93 lottery. The fortunate number, TE 230662 from Kozhikode, clinched the substantial prize. This event unfolded during a lucky draw at Gorky Bhavan, near Bakery Junction in Thiruvananthapuram, under the vigilant supervision of independent judges. Established in 1967, Kerala State Lotteries are managed by the Government of Kerala. The winning ticket was reported to have been purchased in Walayar, Palakkad.
This ₹25 crore prize marks a historic high in Kerala’s lottery history. After a 30% income-tax deduction, the fortunate winner is expected to receive around ₹17.5 crore.
The second prize of ₹1 crore will be awarded to 20 individuals, while another 20 will receive the third prize of ₹50 lakh. Additionally, the fourth prize of ₹5 lakh will be granted to 10 lucky individuals.
Comparatively, last year featured a single second prize of ₹5 crore, ₹50 lakh each for 20 third prize winners, and ₹5 lakh each for 10 fourth prize recipients.
This year witnessed record-breaking sales of Thiruvonam Bumper tickets, with over 70 lakh tickets sold by Wednesday morning, the final day for ticket purchases. Officials from the lottery department attribute this surge in sales to alterations in the prize structure.
In the previous year, a staggering 397,911 fortunate individuals were awarded various Onam bumper prizes.
