Train Accident : Tragedy struck on Wednesday night when the Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express derailed near Bihar’s Buxar district. The devastating incident claimed the lives of at least four passengers, leaving 70 others injured.
The derailment occurred at 9:53 pm, with two AC III Tier coaches toppling over and four other coaches jumping off the tracks, as shown by television footage.
Manish Kumar, Buxar’s Superintendent of Police, confirmed the loss of four lives, and a Railway Police Force official reported that approximately 70 passengers sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals, with the severely injured rushed to AIIMS in Patna.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed condolences for the lives lost and vowed to uncover the root cause of the derailment. Evacuation and rescue operations have been successfully completed, with all coaches thoroughly examined.
The 12506 North East Express, consisting of 23 coaches, commenced its journey from Anand Vihar terminal in Delhi at 7:40 am on Wednesday, destined for Kamakhya, located approximately six kilometers from Guwahati.
The incident took place less than half an hour after the train left the Buxar station and was en route to Ara, near the Raghunathpur station, where the train did not have a scheduled stop.
Immediate relief efforts were initiated, with ambulances and doctors rushing to the scene. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav instructed the departments of disaster management and health to expedite relief measures and ensure assistance to the affected passengers.
Alternative arrangements were made for passengers to continue their journeys, and emergency helpline numbers were issued by the railways. At least 18 trains on the route, including the Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express, have been diverted due to the derailment.
